Azure Storage is one of the Azure services and most of the azure services depend on it that’s why we should know how we can monitor the capacity, performance, and so many other things but before listing the Azure Storage account monitoring tools I highly recommend you to take a look into this link that contains a lot of articles related to Azure storage and if you are interested to know more about Azure services such as Azure VM, Data Studio, SQL Database, PowerShell, CLI, Subscription Check this link contain a lot of articles in azure, and if you are preparing for Azure administrator certification check this article
- Monitor activity on Azure storage
- Azure monitoring classic
- Azure Storage insights
- Main Azure Monitor
- Azure Storage account monitoring Resources

Monitor Activity on Azure Storage
To check the activity executed on Azure storage like data process and actions ingress and Egress you can check it using Activity log and Log Analytics Services from this place you will have full Visibility about what is the process, actions and command executed on Azure storage account For more information I already explained this point in this article (Azure Storage Account and Log Analytics)

Azure Monitoring Classic
When you log in to Azure portal and open the Storage accounts directory and Select the azure storage account you need to monitor it you will find in the left two monitoring Section (Monitoring and Monitoring (classic)) in the Monitoring (classic) you will find
- Usage classic: Capacity Usage, Container (Blob) counts, and object count each chart from these 3 charts are Clickable and it will direct you to Matrices screen using the new matrices hosted under the first Monitoring section.
- Alerts Classic: from here you can custom the alerts you will find some action templates designed you can select the preferred one for you and add your email and the threshold to be notified when this action reaches to this threshold
- Matrices classic: once you open it you will find this massage on the top (Classic metrics managed by Azure Storage will be retired in 2021) because all of the matrices now migrated to the new matrices hosted under the first Monitoring Section but from here you can know Total (requests, Egress, Success and AVG latency) during last Specific times and you can filter the data based on 4 selection (Blob, Files, Tables, Queues)

Azure Storage Insights
When you log in to Azure portal and open the Storage accounts directory and Select the azure storage account you need to monitor it you will find in the left two monitoring Section (Monitoring and Monitoring (classic)) in the first section (Monitoring) you will find
- Azure Storage insights: from here you can know a lot of information under 5 Categories (Availability, Failures, Performance, Capacity)

- Alerts: the new design of alerts from here you can manage all alerts designed for storage account you can build new alert role and you can manage the action using action group (Send an email , SMS,… ) for more information about How to build alert and how to manage the alert the action using action group check this article (Create Deadlock Alert on Microsoft Azure SQL) I used the same concept for How to monitor the deadlock on Azure SQL and send an alert by it
- Matrices: it is the new Matrices chart that will be replaced the Matrices classic in from here you will find 3 Main options:
- Matrices Namespace: What do you want to manor Blob, File, Tables, Queues
- Matrices: A lot of options you can select what you need from it
- Aggregation: the calculation you need to do it on the matrices, you need to check the AVG, SUM, Min, Max…
From this new Matrices design you can design the matrices and build alert on it from the top you will find option new alert Rule

Main Azure Monitor
In Azure Portal there is on services called Monitor it is main services for monitoring most of the services one of this Services is Azure storage account it will give you one monitor it will be very helpful to take a high look about all azure storage accounts status from one place
